Biography
Drew Ellingson (born Andrew Ellingson) is an independent filmmaker and multimedia artist based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They were born on April 5th, 2002 and spend a majority of their childhood moving across the Twin Cities area, mostly around the Saint Paul area due to their parents’ divorce. Although their early film inspiration includes the likes of Jim Henson, they didn’t become interested in becoming a filmmaker until they watched "Le Voyage dans la Lune” around the age of 10. They made a bunch of amateur short films with friends, family, and classmates with the family’s camcorder, but unfortunately all of those early shorts are lost to time for unknown reasons.
During their high school years, they were a crew member of the school’s new program Eagan AM where they learned how to edit video and operate a camera along with working with a production crew. Thanks to a glowing letter of recommendation from their teacher, Drew was accepted into the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2020, but had to begin their academic career a year later because of the COVID-19 pandemic spending most of the year working as a clerical worker for State Government. Since then they have continued to hone their filmmaking craft, and develop powerful relationships with fellow creatives & activist across the great state of Minnesota.
